CrossFit is pretty much singlehandedly responsible for the decline in equipment pricing and the resurgence of olympic lifting. Those are the two main benefits I have seen from it personally.

Pretty much spot on. I always thought the "community" thing was weird then I did a competition and everyone was cool as hell.
