Manfrotto is great...have one for my spotting scope.
Heads cost as much as the legs though in some cases. I have Bogen 3221 legs and 3130 head...both made by Manfrotto. It's heaviesh...so consider how far you'll be hiking with it...otherwise it's very stable. I'm scoping birds a couple of miles away. Has legs that ratchet out at different angles to compensate for uneven terrain (which I never really use).
