One of the worst things you can do is bang the motor off the rev limiter. Ours is set to 6900 and we do hit it but we try not to ride it.

Retaining the stock flywheel and adding a damper are two things that will mitigate the harmonic problems but they aren't a 100% solution.
S52 was an iron block and plenty of them have the OPN issue. Same crank as the M54B30. I don't think aluminum is the problem.
