I've had a 2004 320 cd M sport in the past, no problems whatsoever. I haven't heard of the timing chain snapping from anybody else. Or the BMW specialist I go to is a good friend of mine, he would've advised to stay away if it was that common of a fault. I don't know, but thanks for the caution good luck with finding an engine.
