First of all,

When the weight gets extreme, how do you go about setting it down? When I get tired, I try to stay controlled and place the bar down, maybe let it go about 6 inches or less from the floor. At my gym, most guys (D2 football kids who think they're going to the NFL tomorrow) literally slam the bar down from well over their knee height. Is there just a happy medium to avoid stress and straining your muscles to slowly place down so much weight and outright releasing weight from height?
