That's correct. But that is manufacturing work to get the trigger wheel made. Why bother when you could just use a Dakota Digital Tacho interface box and take the tacho output from the LS ECU into that and the output of that to the crank trigger input for the BMW DME. No manufacturing required. All DIY.

For reference an M3 uses the intake cam sensor input for a tacho. Non M uses the crank trigger input for the tacho.
