So the real question is have you ever replaced your CCV and cleaned out your dipstick tube?
Crankcase vacuum is KEY to controlling oil consumption in these engines.
Before I would tear the engine apart, I would replace the CCV system, remove and clean out the dipstick tube and change the oil to Castrol 5W40 as shown in the picture.
Also what is the engine temperature operating point?
As for BMW LL-01 approval, I would not get to wrapped up on 100% only using oil that is LL-01 approved. This is really only an issue for warranty coverage and if you plan on running with the 15k mile oil change interval.
If you are currently using Mobil 1 0W40, just changing to the Castrol may significantly improve your situation.
Suggest you fully read the 3rd link below in my signature along with all the info on the CCV and mayo build up.
One other suggestion which will likely get a lot of other comments it to pour a can of SeaFoam in the crankcase 500 miles before you change your oil.
