First,, its just a car,, You dont love them you drive them and treat them like a 1500 dollar a night hooker, makes it easier when they need replaced.. With the accident history, auction etc, I'd say it was totaled and rebuilt. I've helped cut a pair of cars in half and welded the good halves together.. OK when there is a 8 point cage in there to maintain the structure.. For a street car?? Not so much..

The E46 is a fairly expensive machine to maintain even if its a perfect specimen, The succession of short ownerships should tell the story..

You should be able to get the engine number that the car was built with from the dealer.

If a BMW dealer recoded the dash to ECM mileage numbers it should be on record.
