First I did was throwing out those old light and put in some decent clear sidemarkers with silver/amber bulbs.

But I can see it's much different in the states, over there many cars still has the amber sidemarkers
That's because in the USA it's a "DOT" (Department of Transportation) law to have amber reflectors in front side.
Early sedans don't have reflectors in the front bumper side, therefore BMW dealerships won't sell the early sedan OE front clears.
