IMHO:
True, that for their top of the line performance components speakers do need certain amounts of power, but high quality speakers do sound better than stock with the same power.
If you're looking for better bass response, then the amp will Be neccesary in order to get that response. But the detail and natural sound of good component speakers you can have without an external amp.
Besides, you can always add it later.
