Why?

More often than not it's just one person in the car, the driver. Well their drivers side is the passenger side of my car. Therefore I'm leaving them with more room to open their door and lessens the chance of them hitting my car.

Great if car on driver's side has no passengers, bad if car on driver's side ends up having passengers. I find most passengers are more careless with doors than the driver/owner of the car.
