Mike,

You can look into an in-line water purifier system that will connect right up with your hose and help soften your hard water and make it safer to work with. Check your local hardware stores, etc. to find out more about them. Generally speaking the bigger the kit you get the more gallons you'll get out of the filter before needing replacement.

Other solution save the washing and drying for dusk or real early in the AM as the sun is starting to creep up for the day.
