See that is where I think the misconception is, the E92 FEELS softer, yes it does feel softer, but that was the point. Give it a better on road feel but keep the handling to the same level or better then the E46.
Just because it feels softer doesnt mean it doesnt handle. I have driven both of them back to back extensively and at the limit its pretty hard to make the E46 handle that much better then the E92 (not talking M's here). The only car that feels like it handles better is the ZHP and that car rides pretty rough comparitively to the rest of the E46 line up. My ZHP suspension is not far off in harshness to the E46 M.
Check the numbers around the Ring on the E92 its nipping at the heels of the M3 and and you cant say its the engine there because the M is in rev heaven.
