This is an outstanding write-up. I did my belts, water pump, thermostat, coolant, fuel filter, and some other little things this past weekend on my '01 325 ci and this was very helpful in visualizing what needed to be done for the belts. The Bentley manual was not at all clear on the best way to release the tension on the tensioner and did not, as far as I could tell, specify the need for a T50 torx, which was needed on my car as well.
All of the work was fairly straightforward but the most annoying part was snapping two of those expansion rivets -- I wish they would have used something else so that clumsy asses like me could manipulate the connectors without the risk of breaking the plastic. Though it may not have been the best idea, my substitute temporary connectors to replace the rivets before I could purchase new ones comprised an expanding drywall anchor, a washer, and a machine screw.
