I actually have a spare DME for my car (in case my primary one takes a dump). I have two EWSs and keys under the dash. In case I need to change out the DME, everything I need is right there. I have an old ignition tumbler zip tied under the dash with a coil snapped around it. This keeps the key from falling out.
This is all necessary assuming no modifications are made to the DME. In my case, I can swap DMEs and then only need to re-align the EWS to make the spare DME work with the rest of my car. Not sure exactly how ESS pulls it off but it sure came in handy for me - of course, I was already having my DME modified with a tune for the SC anyway.
