I obtained some new rims. They are 18x8.5 (all 4) with a 40mm offset.

I have a year 2000 328i

Purchased 225/40r18 tires, went to dealer and they won't mount them. They say the rim is way to wide for a 225 and they say the proper size would be more like a 255, but that would cause them to rub.

I have called tire-rack and another local tire company, and they both say the tire is capable of fitted a 8.5 wide rim and there is no safety risk.

Has anyone else done mounted a 225/40R18 on a 18x8.5 rim.

I just am worried since the dealer won't mount it for me.

Any advice would be helpful.
