Hmm, I understand it needs to not be close to the fuel tank, but re-locating it to the engine bay probably isn't the best idea. I think the rear seat area would be a better location. Anywho, I've never heard of anyone doing this.
Weight distribution. These cars need weight in the rear, if anything. Plus, just not really seeing the benefit of moving it around so much. Also means you would need to change the wiring. Honestly, I've never seen anyone relocate the battery in an E46.
Seems like a fair amount of interest based on views but no solid info.
The compartment up front looks like a perfect place for the battery and the one that I'm using is only 9.5lbs. I've removed that much emissions and window washing equipment so I'm not really concerned about the weight being there and not in the rear.
How about the fuel cell guys, where are you relocating the battery to in the the e46?
I was actually just looking at that picture. That's a fine location for the battery and even works better for me based on where my master switch is located. My main reason for moving it to the engine bay was to avoid having to use a sealed battery box but that's not a big deal, I'll check some of the race shops and see what's available.
