OK, I have gotten dozens of pms over the last couple months regarding the muffler delete and "how does it sound...". So, I figured I would just take a few vids under different circumstances so you could get a decent representation how it sounds and hopefully, settle some of the confusion.
The car has the OEM headers, the OEM intake, both OEM resonators, and no muffler... just piping out the back to tips. Also has a vorsteiner dual sided hood if that makes any difference (maybe it's lighter so has less sound dampening :dunno: )
Anyways, here you go. I figured doing it at night would be best as you could see the speedometer and RPMs best.:
Did mine back in 2005 with the man himself, kpeng. Easily one of the best mods I ever did to my car. To this day... I still love the exhaust note.
People have told me my cat can hear me coming from down the street, and will run to my door in anticipation of me coming through it. The same with my gf's. :lmao:
But yea... passes emissions, no codes thrown, just a change in sound for the most part.
Im about to do this also, Just the muffler guy i went to was like why you putting exhaust on a 325i, but He put a full cat back on my acura. Dont understand him.
hate muffler shop guys that love to question why you're doing this..
taken my car/friends cars/family cars to certain muffler shop to do a muffler delete or put an aftermarket muffler on it and they always give the typical "why are u doing this? waste of money/you wont like it" type of thing.. never understood it.
Yea and there job is todo muffler installs. They are more then happy to do them on ricers. But ask what are you thinking about when you want a good exhaust on a nice car.
not bad for a dinan cai and muffler delete. less than 130 bucks and took less than an hour at a local shop. i'm not going to lie, around 5k, she actually has a little more pull. not bad for a 325i
Since you're down their way anyhow, may I suggest RRT. They did the work on mine and are absolutely awesome guys. They may charge you a bit more than midas but they will do top notch work. Give them a ring and speak with Wayne or James. Tell them Chase sent you :hi:
Their shop and absurdly awesome race car that ran in the koni challenge

Sweet! I was actually thinking about taking it to them... I wonder if they could copy your quad exhaust if I asked... :4ngie:
How much was it for just your quad setup? without including the price of the exhaust tips?
I got a quote from piper motorsports for around 900- 1000.
This was with a top of the line muffler replacement, stainless steel pipes and a really nice exhaust tip and not just straight pipes with flanges welded on the both the new muffler and OEM muffler for a bolt on and off setup in case I ever decide to sell the car or get old.
yes they have 2. one is your cat(closest to the engine) and the other is just a resonator(closest to your tips). If you wanna go louder and still have some performance, i'd go with headers. But if your lookin for a cheap way to make it louder, take out the resonator.
Here's what w0w's car sounded like without a resonator or muffler...http://www.youtube.com/user/droncpron#p/a/u/2/Dlv2vgVQIdw
keep in mind that it's a 323i and your car will probably be louder and meatier then that bc you have a 330.
After watching this video, makes me not want to get a muffler delete anymore.
Not sure which model this is, but I have a feeling my 325i will sound somewhat similar =(
that video is of a 325i and the sound quality sucks on that vid so dont go by it. Here's another video of a muffler delete on a 325i http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTa20-MYJ04
and 325i and 323i have similar engines which means the sound would be similar. So videos of either or would work..

quick question...i have ebay headers, no cats and no 2nd resonator but a stock muffler on my 323i. it sounds like an m3 when i floor it but not as loud as one...my CAI is louder than the exhaust. the muffler shop suggested removing the other resonator to add better sound. Will it sound like crap if i do that or what can i expect from it? i was thinking of putting the 2nd resonator back on and going with a borla muffler but idk what to do. i like how my exhaust is quiet like stock with a little bass to it if i drive normally and when i floor it, it opens up. what kind of setup should i get to achieve the same thing? my car is completely stock on the outside, so i dont want an exhaust system that is ear shattering, but i want something that has a nice tone to it without being too loud.
the whistle is created from you intake. just incase you didnt know lol. makes the sexy nice noise that most people love from bfc when you add the intake. funny though cus most people that know i have a long tube intake when i drive by some people think i have a turbo cus of it also im running straight pipes on the rear and soon getting headers. im never afraid to dip my hand in hot water, i just throw myself in haha.
