Before cleaning my engine bay several months back I noticed a lot of gunk on the PS reservoir cap and down the side of the reservoir. A month later and I now noticed gunk on the cap and down the sides of the reservoir. I don't see any ps fluid on my garage floor but a little on the lines attached to the reservoir. It appears the fluid is coming from the cap (maybe the cap isn't tight enough :banghead
Is this a case where the clamps need replacing? Do I have too much fluid in the reservoir? I checked and the fluid level looks fine?
I had the same problem on my 325, the body of the reservoir would be caked in grime. Assuming your cap is not damaged, try replacing the cap O-ring (#3 in the picture below), that worked for me.
There is nothing wrong. There is a breather hole in the cap. No matter what you do to the system, or no matter what you 'think' you fixed, you will never always have a clean reservoir.
This may be true, but I know that my O-ring (item 3 in diagram above) was rock hard and deformed. I replaced it and there was a big improvement in the amount of fluid seepage on the outside of the reservoir.
You can find the part number on realoem.com. Part number is: 32411128333
