get te 1000/1. Why would u buy a speaker that can handle 1000 watts but match it to a speaker that can only handle 500 max. In order to power your sub at 1/2 power, you would have to run your amp at max.

i think a 500.1 will be good enough. but, if you do decide to get 1000watts. remember not to turn it up the whole way as the sub won't be handling so much power

Get the 1000.1 because you are more likely to fry an underpowered sub than an overpowered sub. From what I've seen, people are more likely to clip their amps if the subs are underpowered which tends to be more destructive than more power. JLs are made to be abused, that's why they cost so much.

If you can't afford the 1000.1, then get a smaller W7 or go with the W6 line.

I want to spend like $1100 or less for the sub and amp.

Will a 12W7 be okay with a 500/1 amp?

You'll be fine, but I'm not sure you will be getting all that paid for from the 12W7 with a 500/1. IMO, you'll be better off with a 1000/1 and a 12W6, but that's just my opinion. You really can't go wrong either way.

Just do the 10" W7 with the 500/1, you will get much tighter bass as well.
