Is it worth getting new component speakers w/o amps?

Just changing the oem's for something better even though there not powered by an amp? or is it absolutely necessary?

if you are gonna change JUST the speakers, you need to find the most efficient speaker possible...(a speaker that can perform using the smallest amount of power) because a stock head unit is pretty weak.

component speakers require lots of power to sound good, so i think it would be a waste to swap them out without hooking up a decent amp.

damn i need some $$

IMHO:

True, that for their top of the line performance components speakers do need certain amounts of power, but high quality speakers do sound better than stock with the same power.

If you're looking for better bass response, then the amp will Be neccesary in order to get that response. But the detail and natural sound of good component speakers you can have without an external amp.

Besides, you can always add it later.

I'm using DLS magnesium component for the front w/o a amp to power it, it does sounds better than the stock speakers tho. But I think it will sound better if I got another amp to power it.....
