Possible custom 10" enclosure for E46 avail to everyone
So I contacted elemental designs and they are interested in making a custom enclosure for the e46 that might be available to the masses. I am going to visit them next week, I was thinking of having them do a 10" side mounted above the battery compartment....or should I have them do a JL audio stealth box type of deal...I emailed them and they seem interested in catering to the E46's.

So they are going to build me a wooden stealth box above the battery compartment and ballpark pricing will be < $150.00. They will use my car as a model on Jan 13th, I will post pics once they make it....should be available soon after from what it sounds...We have needed something like this for a long time, stealth boxes at $300+ were way too much and the rear deck mount from bavarian sound did not seem like a good solution to me....

Autoacoustics.com is fine if you're in the UK, but to get it shipped here costs a fortune

BSW boxes look pretty good. I was thinking abot getting the dual box that hangs below the rear deck but instead I ordered a fiberglass box from wickedcas because it looks more custom. It's the same one I posted in another thread.

I just installed my BSW deckmount box last night.. I was not nearly as impressed after the installation as before. The build quality is great, but I am not impressed with the "quick mount" system. There is nothing "quick" about the way this box mounts/unmounts...unless you have fold down rear seats. It is a huge pain in the ass to lift this thing up and try to bolt it up through the ski-pass. I had to have two friends help me lift it in to place, then jam a box under it just to hold it there long enough for me to get the bolts tightened. I also was really unimpressed with the ACE hardware mounting brackets. Nice.. I should have built this thing myself.
All that aside, it is a nice box, and is built very well. If you don't have time/skill/access to tools, then pick one of these up. It looks great, and hits really hard once you get it installed. Just don't plan on a quick install / removal. Also, consider the single 10" enclosure.. I am beginning to wish that I had gone that route. Mine is probably heavier then the complete unit that BSW sells though. I used two Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 VQ subs which have a 6.5" mounting depth. The reason I used those subs is because I already had one, and when I ordered the dual 10" enclosure, I picked up a matching sub. I had to fabricate some spacer rings out of MDF, but all in all it turned out very nice. However.. using a larger sub made this box really, REALLY heavy. ![]() Anyway, I am not bashing BSW or this product. Both times I have dealt with them their customer service and products were top notch. I just want people without fold down rear seats to know that this might not be the product for you. If there was a way to reverse the mounting system, that would change everything. IF the "quick release" were on the front of the box (rear of the trunk) it would be a snap to put in and take out. I may end up tack welding some nuts onto the rear deck to make this work. /thread hijack

Is there a reason why no one makes a box like that for the driver's side?

I haven't made one but it wouldn't be any more difficult. The passenger side just has more room to work with. I suppose if a person wanted 2 subs you could do one on each side. My 1 12" gives me plenty of lows though. 2 subs would be overkill unless your deaf

two 10's could be done easily on the driver's side, however, you would have to cut/modify the trunk liner and ditch any electronics back there - i.e. changer, amp, etc.

they do make them for th other side but the space there is smaller so its either only for small subs or you end up sticking out alot further. plus using both would mean alot of work (trial and error ) to get them both the same volume (not to hard ) but toget them accousticalysimalr would be hard otheriwse the subs wouls be sounding abit wierd tuned to different frequencies !
