resetting the break pad sensor light?? anyone...

Just changed out all 4 pads and the dash light is still on. Is there a way I can reset this w/o going to the dealer?

There's a ton of DIYs on brakes, you didn't replace the brake pad sensor, when the pads get low, they get scraped through and activated, they can't be deactivated though, you have to replace them, or cut the wires and splice them together. Which will force the lights to go off, but you're bypassing the sensors and they won't tell you the next time the brakes need changing.

try putting the key in the ignition and turning it all the way without starting it then leave it like that for 2 minutes take the key out and then start the car

Hey guys, I have the ultimate way to forever turn off the brake pad warning light on the dash. Take out the gauge cluster, disconnect the wires. You can then remove the gauges and then it exposes the LED's that come on for the warning lights. Simply get a small screw driver and break the LED. It wont be coming on ever again! You gotta love that!

Did you try this?
What happens if your brake pad gone low again; will it come back on?

I'll try it when i go out to lunch and let guys know for sure when I get back.

Yes, that's how it's done.

But you need to have changed out the sensor(s) first. Simply doing this will not reset a sensor that's tripped. They are not "reusable" and need to be replaced if they've worn through.

well yeah. this process is to reset the light once you have changed your pads and sensors.

Not absolutely sure, but I believe the sensor end of the wear sensor is not a "resettable" item. Once it wears through, it's done and needs to be replaced. My guess is that if one is worn, after you reset things it's likely to go off again since it will likely still "think" the brake pad is worn.

funny shiet...just splice them if you don't want to see the light. but it is always good to have it replaced in case you are not a high maint guy.

I recently did a total brake overhaul (Turner Kit w/ Ceramic Pads). After I replaced the sensors the light went off on its own. Did you replace the worn sensor when you replaced them?

Question regarding this... I had a sensor R/R, that was ripped up so I had it replaced and the light it still on.. The guy said I might have to go to the dealer to just reset the light itself, since it might need to be "re-set". Anyway I can do this part myself?

I tried the whole leave the keys in the car at pos II (i changed the senors) but it didnt work. After a couple of times driving i realized that it went off...
Try the 2 minutes but otherwise it might just turn off.

I can't find the helpful post I read to reset my break sensor light but it told me that after changing the pads and sensor turn the key to the second position just before starting the car, hold down the reset cruse control button for 10 seconds and then start the car. It WORKED!, and I just wanted to say thanks. These forums are very helpful.
