E46 330CI Engine install problems

Does anybody know if ECU and ignition needs recoding if a replacement engine is fitted ?

I have just had another 330ci m54 engine installed, the car is currently a 330ci. a local mechanic has installed is not an expert on bmw.

Is there somethink programmed or summit that would stop you starting the car after fitting a replacement engine ?

It is really annoying, car has been off the road two months now ! engine has been in over a week but cant start it !

Any ideas ?

thanks

The car wont start, sensors have been checked and swapped with original engine.

Thought after this were that the code may have been erased from the key, spare key has also been tried with no joy !

No programming required. When I did a M54B22 to a M54B22 swap, it fired up immediately. Is your fuel pump working? Does the car crank at least?

The DME will not allow the starter to turn over if the Throttle Body is not connected. Have him check that the 6 pin connector is seated properly.

Check to make sure everything is hooked up in the DME area (i.e. the coil pack power connector).

Has your mechanic hooked it up to a scanner? That should help narrow the issue down.
