Prob with different diameter tires on Xi

So I find out today that one of my customers had a front tire fail on her 2006 Xi. She'd had two rears replaced a few months ago.

Today, the dealer replaced just the flat one in front, so now she has three slightly different size tires on her car.

I've read Xi's should get all four at the same time...maybe that's overly fanatic, but at least a pair at a time, right?

What's the risk to the diffs and anyway to think of getting dealer to replace the other front one, given that she has tire insurance and that different size front one isn't 'probably' recommended (unless it's by a dealer that'd otherwise 'maybe' have to pay for it)?

Very useful, thanks a lot...didn't occur to me to search for staggered stupid am I?

That admitted, I bet if I called up the dealership and said I had a flat front run flat tire and the other one was a year or two old, they'd tell me I needed to buy at least two new ones...wouldn't you think?

The local Firestone dealer convinced my wife she needed four new tires on the Subaru Outback...coz it's not good for the diffs.

Anyway, I won't worry so's not my car...and I don't want to get her upset over something that I'm probably just being too OCD about.
