The steering system is designed to work with fluid - what you would probably need to do is purchase a non-power steering-specific steering rack (if BMW even offered it). If BMW even offered it, it would probably be a part from a Euro-Specific 316 or something similar...
Either way, not a great idea.

I had a turbo eclipse that i deleted the system from. I removed the pump, made sure the rack still had fluid in it and ran a hose from the rack to itself. If that makes sense. I drove this way for over a year like this with no problems.

A rack from a Z4 is manual (because it has electric power steering) and it has a pulley where the PS pump usually goes. Removing the power steering will not affect the DSC.

The only thing I don't know is if the length of the input shaft is the same as and E46 power steering rack. It looks pretty darn close. The splines are the same though.
As for the rack bolting up to the subframe and the tie rods, everything is exactly the same. Actually, the whole front suspension is exactly the same as an E46. The rear is exactly the same as a 328/325 except for the rear drive flanges. I don't know of anyone who has done this as it seems that the 3 series folk don't know a thing about a Z4.

One other option is to use a electric/hydraulic power steering pump (i.e. Porsche and Mercedes). That way, you can still have power steering so you don't have to be a gorilla when you want to drive your car around on the street. On the other hand, it'll build up your upper body strength and you'll start looking like "The Situation".
As for Turner having a power steering failure, you are probably thinking about the M6. That's a completely different beast as most DP's and GT cars run a KYB electric power steering unit.

lol at "The Situation"
We talked a little about this before and I actually found a thread on another forum that you chimed in on. So, we could use our current rack and a MB electronic pump, correct? I'm guessing custom lines would be in order. Do you have any other info? This might be nice to do down the line to save a few horses. Quote:
