Metallic banging noise from front brakes when braking
My car has recently started making a metallic sounding clanking noise from the front brakes whenever I brake. The sounds increase the harder I brake. I turned off stability/traction control, and that helped a little, but I can't figure out what it is doing. Anybody know?

yeah sorry forgot to post. turns out the brake pads were more or less non existent. got it in just in time though, and the rotors were fine.

If they were that worn you should have seen a light come on indicating they were done.
![]() If you didn't then you need to check with the person who did your brakes as to why the sensor didn't go off. BMW pads have NO metal shim that contacts the rotor when the pad is worn - this shim is what gives that annoying squeal and makes you check your pads. Since they are not on BMW pads the electronic wear sensor becomes more important as you don't know there is a problem until you drag a pad on the rotor. |
