DIY: Permanent fix for E46 Coupe Door/Window Trim Edge Protection coming out.
Just a quick DYI for fixing the rubber seal that comes off from the door/window Trim Edge Protectionin the E46 Coupe.
Part no. 51717161687 etc... EDGE PROTECTION LEFT SCHWARZ 51717161687 $377.19 EDGE PROTECTION RIGHT SCHWARZ 51717161688 $377.19 EDGE PROTECTION LEFT HELLBEIGE 51717161689 $377.19 EDGE PROTECTION RIGHT HELLBEIGE 51717161690 $377.19 EDGE PROTECTION LEFT GRAU 51717161691 $377.19 EDGE PROTECTION RIGHT GRAU 51717161692 $377.19 More info: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...38&hg=51&fg=55 Two years ago the window trim Edge Protection from the driver's side was coming off and had previously been glued together with contact glue but after a short while, especially in hot sun, comes apart again. Decided to sew the two parts together using fishing wire (with stitches being about an inch apart) together with the existing contact glue. This should provide a permanent fix for the flaw in the BMW's design. The only thing that you can see on the trim after sewing is little dots where the wire has looped into the trim fabric but un-noticable in most cases if the loop is only a few mm's in size. Attached are some images that should give you a good idea on how to do it, sorry about the quality though, they were taken with my mobile. Peter
