Engine Problem.

Well today coming back from the dentist my car seemed that it was lacking a lot of horsepower on the top end. I thought it wasn't too much to worry about. After I got home I went to work and that's when the real problem started. The car is aggressively shifting and sometimes not even shifting at all. It seems like it's misfiring. I had three codes come up from a generic OBDII tool.

P0369 (Camshaft position sensor exhaust) Just replaced with OEM BMW cost me around $100 from BMAparts.com wtf.
P0174
P0171

Read the last two could be a possibility of bad gas, bad disa, cracked intake hose, etc. I'm going to check for all of those things but why would the CPS code come back? I literally replaced the part with a brand new BMW OEM one a couple weeks ago, no light since until now. Suggestions?

The car works perfect sometimes like 1 out of 10 times for a few minutes then I can't get past 4k rpms and it wont shift.

Anyways, so i'm going to check DISA valve, All intake related things, maybe clean the MAF.

Did you get your sensor FROM the local BMW dealership, or did you get it online?

The camshaft position sensor cannot be from anything else but the camshaft sensor or its wiring.

P0171 & P0174 mean FUEL TRIM LEAN. This indicates a leak in the intake ahead of anything else.

It was from BMAparts.com OEM Genuine BMW.

Ok, lol. OE BMW Genuine. I think you're the one who helped me out when I bought that junk sensor from ebay. I can't believe the code came back on though in conjunction with 171 and 174 at the same time.

Also I wanted to add, I checked the all of the hoses and everything the only hose that was bad was the SAP hose, it was dry-rotted and collapsed. I can't get the car to go past 4k, it'll get there and then start to slow down with the throttle all the way depressed. I suspect bad gas, cats or soft-fail fuel pump. Anyway to check these items? I got the gas from a Kroger's station is super unleaded. I always fill up there and never had a problem before. I checked the hoses with a non-chlorinated brake cleaner and the idle remained the same throughout.

You can check the fuel pump by measuring the fuel pressure at the front of the injector rail. It should be about 50 psi +- 3 psi.
The SAP vacuum hose could/would cause the P0171/p0174 codes, did you check the hose under the valve cover and around the back of the cylinder head?

Even brand new BMW parts can fail. Make sure the connection and wiring are still good.

CCV lower oil return hose that connects to the dipstick tube base is also a big problem and is very often overlooked as it is hard to locate.

Grab the hose at the base of the dipstick and follow it back to the bottom of the CCV, if soft, covered with oil or torn/collapsed, it needs to be changed. A very common problem with lean codes along with any other crankcase air leak.

I'm about to go check the oil CCV hose. I just wanted to know if what would be the most common thing to make the car lose all of that power? It's literally missing 100 hp on the higher RPM spectrum 3500+.

Just took the car out for a spin. It was chugging really bad. Pulled back into my neighborhood and disconnected the MAF. The car then chugged and died out. Plugged it back in and now the car won't start. Had someone drag it back to my house. Wtf is going on. MAF or Fuel Pump is toast I believe. I have another 01 325i that runs perfect that my brother drives so I'm going to try and switch them out and see if that solves anything. (Switch the MAF)

Doubt it is the MAF. Unplugging the MAF should force fixed fuel map, however, car may not run well at higher RPM's.

Likely fuel pump failure? Try startng fluid, if engine starts then dies, it is likely the pump. Replace fuel filter as well.

Took off the shrader valve on the fuel line and pressed it down with a flathead. No pressure, no fuel. Going to try starting fluid next to double check.

I could not hear the pump prime. No noise coming from back there, I took out rear seat and had someone listen as well. I read about the relays exstensively, so that is next on the check up list. I've been getting a horrible 16mpg average but I don't really beat on my car. Maybe the filter and pump need to be replaced badly. I'll let you guys know how everything goes. I didn't have any starter fluid left in the garage, but I'm going to get some after work. Thank you guys for all of the suggestions and everything.

Read the 2nd link below in my signature about fuel pumps. Doubt it is just your fuel pump relay, but you would be wise to replace it with your pump & filter.

If you have MAF cleaner it should act as starting fluid.

jfoj, I can't thank you enough for all your help.

I went to O'Reilly's and picked up a can of valvoline starting fluid because I was all out of MAF cleaner as well lol. Sprayed it into the intake boot and the car fired up like a charm. Immediately died when I quit spraying it though. Going to be ordering pump and filter tonight.
