looks like his front tires lost traction right before that turn...that's quite unfortunate

He never had traction after coming off that small elevation. He should have laid the brakes while going up and after acsending the hill, shift the weight of the car forward then floor it.

Which would have sent him off into the desert backwards.

You're correct about needing to brake on the uphill, but cresting the rise unloads front AND rear. The speed has to be down enough to give the car time to get its weight back down on the tires so it can be turned sharply enough to stay on the pavement.

"Flooring it" when the rears are unloaded as much as the fronts just induces oversteer instead of understeer. He didn't have room to deal with either. And given the choice of going straight off, or going off sideways or backwards, straight off is mo' bettah.

he had way too much speed going into that turn and clearly was looking ahead instead of at the next turn

understeer want even a factor as much as braking was, the dumbass was going too fast into a hill, you never do that. always brake when going into the top of a hill....always.

Looks like an idiot driving way too fast on that hilly road to me. DSC can't do anything if the car is in the air.
