Are springs worth it?

I planned on doing HR springs and bilstein shocks at 75k but was wondering if it'd be worth it to do springs now? Is my handling going to improve or are springs alone going to make the car ride like crap and ruin my stock suspension parts? I figured springs alone are cheap enough for now, I'll get my ride height down and it will handle better until I get to the point where I actually NEED Bilsteins. Are springs something I can DIY easily?

Springs are fairly simple to install specially if you follow one of the many DIY's here on the forum.
At 75K miles I would not do lowering springs as it is that time for you to replace your shocks anyway.
If you go with lowering springs, you will run into issues due to premature shock wear which will run you more expensive because now you'll have to pay extra labor to install your shocks after you already paid to install the springs.

I would suggest you save some money and do it right by going with a coilover the first time around. Coilovers are as easy to install as lowering springs Handling will be greatly improved when you replace your stock worn out suspension and switch it up to a coilover.
The ST v1 coilovers will be a great choice for you.

I would also recommend you replace the lower control arm bushings, trailing arm bushings and rear shock mounts if you haven't done so recently. PM coming your way

Replacing your factory springs with lower springs and keeping your factory dampers is a bad idea. With 55k on your car, your original dampers are already on their way out. Installing a lower spring will only accelerate the decline in ride quality. If you want a lower car with improved handling, do it the right way. Replace the springs/dampers all at once along with FCABs and RTABs and whatever else is worn out.

Plus if you're going to replace the struts and shocks anyways why do all that work twice? It is a pretty simple diy but it's still a pain in the butt. I would just wait and do it all at once.

If you are not doing coilover and don't want to lower, don't bother! Unless your current springs are rusting.

I installed Tein springs in a mazda3 I had and I drove like crap. It looked good, but it wasn't worth it. I needed to buy the camber kits which I couldn't afford, so it ended up being a waste of money. Don't ruin your Bimmer!
