Thermostat Recommendations

Just curious what some of the members of the Forum think about the following thermostats/housings available. My Service Engine Soon light came on today and the Fault Code was A8, coolant thermostat jammed open, so its time for a new one. BMW at a cost of $111.95, Behr at a cost of $67.95, Wahler at a cost of $55.00 or a Motorad at a cost of $54.68? To me there's no sense spending $111.95 for one that has the BMW packaging. Behr and Wahler are good names I've used in the past, have no experience with the Motorad. Looking for opinions.

Tom,

Wahler is the OE maker for mine. I assume for you too, but don't quote me.

You probably don't want Motorad as I've never heard of it! You need good electronics in this thing, so OE is best.

+1 for a Wahler, I've used them in every BMW or Benz I've had to do a t-stat in.

Go genuine, or wahler which actually is the OEM, but don't try anything else. Also... don't get into the aluminum housing debate. In the end the original part is just the best.

Sorry if this post doesn't make sense. I am writing on a cell phone.

Agreed, definitely worth going OEM on this one. I had a nightmare with aluminum housing, returned it and went OEM.

Why would writing on a cell phone make you post not make sense?

+1 for Wahler but honestly I just put on a beck/arnley stat and havent had any issues with it. picked it up for around 80 at advance and I don't have any complaints. like el polo said stay away from the aluminum, youll end up wanting to kick puppies and punch some babies after it takes a dump on you within the year..

Another Walher t-stat user here. Swapped one in about a month back. Straight forward swap. It looked identical to what came off and everything fit just as needed.
