Head lights not sitting properly.

I installed my new headlight yesterday and i can't get them to sit properly there a gap between the headlight and the trim panel. Any ideas on why this may be happening?

The headlight trim goes above those plastic nipples on the headlight.

They aren't put on correctly. he has to take the trim out and raise it up so it covers that bottom section of the headlight.
