Rear Coil Overs Only?
I do almost all of my own work, but I do take the car to the dealership for oil changes and inspections. Picked the car up today (03 325i) and they had noticed a couple of things that need to be taken care of. Most of them are no problem, but one item left me wondering.
The dealership claims that both rear springs are broken. I know this is a common problem on E46s, and I had even had one spring replaced under warranty. I don't really want to lower the car because it's driven in winter, but the thought of putting failure prone stock springs back in doesn't really appeal to me either. Is there a rear-only coil over kit that might be a good solution? If not, a good replacement spring? |

Any aftermarket spring kit you buy will lower the car, and they are sold as full kits, meaning springs for the front and rear. BMW parts do come with a two year warranty so it's not like the buyer bears all the risk. My suggestion if you want to retain stock ride height, buy the springs from BMW.

The H&R springs have a relatively small ride height change and are around $370 retail. I'm not sure what the cost of factory springs are but I'm guessing that they are probably more expensive than aftermarket. The H&R spring lowers the car approx 1/4" rear and 3/4" front FYI
