CIA Director Petraeus resigns over extra-marital affair - before tesitying on Libya

Holy smokes! I didn't see this coming

General Patraeus, America's famous General?

I'm disappointed, and as a Veteran, feel let down.

Quote:
CIA director David Petraeus resigns over extramarital affair

Editor's note: Retired Gen. David Petraeus stepped down Friday as head of the Central Intelligence Agency - 14 months after taking the job, days after the presidential election and days before he was set to testify before Congress about an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya that left four Americans dead.

---------

Petraeus issued a statement announcing his resignation, saying, "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair.

"Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the president graciously accepted my resignation."

Now why would he do that? I hope he still gets brought in to testify.

I wonder when the affair happened. I wouldn't be surprised if being in DC corrupted him.

Exactly.
It's only bad because we judge him based on American puritan standards.
Petraeus, Tiger Woods,... who said we have the right to put certain people on a pedestal?
How about when a Holywood celebrity has an extra marital affair? Nobody gives a blip.
Why?
They are all human beings.

Didn't that French prime minister (Chiraq?) had a well know mistress for ever? I heard she was more popular with the French than his wife was.
At the same time Clinton is caught with an intern and is almost impeached.
It's just a matter of (unrealistic) expectations.

Heaven forbid we should hold someone to a solemn vow they made. If your not going to live up to your marital vows then don't get married.

It does sound suspicious. And Hillary will be gone out of town 'on business' and Obama will be in Asia (Burma). The first time a president has ever visited the nation. Makes you want to go hmmmmmmmm.

Okay, he retired. What does that have to do with his testimony? Retired/Active/Civilian doesn't matter when it comes to Congressional summons to testify. It's still legally required to go if they say to come testify..

Exactly... IF. If they bring him in. that is the point. He was scheduled to do so. If he doesn't afterall, or is no longer asked to, something is up.

Well, so far, according to the news he isn't anymore. He was supposed to testify for the CIA and what they knew or didn't know. Since he's resigned, he now can't speak on behalf of the CIA anymore. The deputy director likely will.

Bret Baier of Fox News just tweeted, "With Petraeus' resignation effective immediately, he will not testify next week & lawmakers are said to be 'stunned' by the announcement."
