cross threaded steering rack threads

Hi guys, seriously stressed out at a mistake I have made while servicing the car.

I was flushing the steering rack and while doing so, I managed to cross thread the thread on the steering rack. I didnít realise this at the time but it became apparent later on. Anyway, what do I now do to rectify this problem?

One source says that the rack has to be renewed and all pipe work associated to the pipe work also has to be renewed. Is this true? The shrapnel that I would of got into the system cannot be that much. Can it really cause that much of a problem?

If so, would it not suffice to just have the threads rebuilt on the rack, get it flushed, remove all pipe work get it flushed and remove pump and get it flushed?

Please advise. Also a diy for removing the rack would also be great.

I would first attempt a tap and die set to try and get threads straight on hose and rack. If successful, and no leaks, BAM! Flush system before putting back together after test fit just in case of metal in the system. If it leaks a little after together. Remove fitting and place one round of plumbers tape on threads, reinstall.

Ive decided to take the rack off and get a hella coil fitted to the rack. Dont wanna cause anymore damage. There is a few ways of flushing the system, what would you suggest is the best way in my case
