HELP! Valves Stuck!
Hi guys, so I started out with a bad miss on a cold start. Pulled P1345 & P1349 directing me to cylinders 2 & 4 with cutoff.
I also noticed some oil leaking around the vanos, cam sensors, and some build up when I pulled the CCV hoses. I decided to yank the manifold and replace some other hoses while I was there, only to find that the valves were actually open on cylinders 2 & 4. Pictures below illustrate what I'm talking about. Excuse the poor quality, it's hard capturing valves with an iPhone. I'm just trying to figure out some next steps here. I'm dreading pulling the head. What do you guys reckon? Bad springs, lifters? Car is a 2001 330ci with only 82,000km or 51,000 miles. ![]() Last edited by dlandon; 11-28-2012 at 11:13 AM. |

Do the valves not close as you rotate the engine? They must or they would be bent. Given that the firing order goes from 2 to 4, it makes sense that they would both have their valves open to some extent at the same point in the cycle.

See the two sets of cam lobes both pointing roughly up. Those correspond with cylinder 2 and 4.
(I apologize for the blurry picture, I had to zoom way in on a pic from my cam install DIY)

I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure. I'll put everything back together and get a compression / leak down test done to make sure it's all sound.
Thanks! |
