phone connector in centre console... ipod lead?

hi there, i notice in my e46 it has some kind of old phone connector underneath the storage tray by the handbrake lever. is there any kind off connector lead that will enable me to connect the ipod to this rather than using the changer port on the stereo???

+1 phone tray and cable are wasted space in my center console, an alternative AUX in jack would be clutch... any input?

It would be a pretty simple diy mod to make one.

Yes - there's a pretty easy DIY on how to tap this for a power source. I used a two USB charger to run two wires for phone chargers - one routed to the euro tray and one more to the rear ashtry (for passengers to charge)

Nice, but I was thinking something along the lines of making the phone AUX in capability work for a music player or something similar.

If you are looking to connect iPod/iPhone(except for iPhone 5) get something like this(doesnt have to be BMW specific)

and do a aux in mod hidden under the tray.
I have the same, but in the glovebox. Now its useless because iPhone 5 uses lighting port and the audio is not transmitted as analog anymore. People claim apple adapters do the job, but havent had a chance to test it though.
