This enfuriates me: Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Vigil For Connecticut

It would take every ounce of my being not to physically harm these MFers if I were a member of that community. If one of my kids had died in this event, Lord help me, for I would take matters into my own hands with these people.

They are a hate group operating under the guise of a "church"...

How a group of people can do anything but stand beside this community and support them is beyond me. This is beyond mere disrespect and distaste, it shows their lack of humanity.

The Westboro Baptist Church, the controversial group known for protesting outside funerals of slain U.S. service members, announced that it will picket a vigil for the victims of Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the second-deadliest school shooting in American history.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, a spokesperson for the group and, like most members of the organization, a relative of the group's founder, Fred Phelps, announced on Twitter on Saturday the group's plan "to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

It is unclear when the group plans to protest, although a tweet from Margie Phelps implied that it would be during a vigil that will be attended by President Barack Obama on Sunday evening.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church say that America is being punished for its acceptance of gays and lesbians. In recent days, Phelps family members have sent tweets about the Connecticut shooting that have said "God sent the shooter."

Ok I have been avoiding this issue since I heard it announced during my flight. Its such a horrendous thing that I know has happened before and will happen again but the mix of political bull-shitting and media hyping that I knew would ensue has caused me great stress.

Reading this article about the WBC sent a wake of hatred down my spine that I have never felt before. My first thought when I read it was to kill the first WBC picketer I would see. That is the first time I've ever felt the desire to kill someone. Its pretty disturbing actually.

Just thought I'd share. This tragedy is causing an insane amount of response and emotional turmoil across the globe. I hope people can get past the bullshit and someday morn humanity rather than take advantage of it.

Fact is, if the media stopped giving people like Westboro airtime, they wouldn't exist. The reason groups like this can and do remain successful is because we consistently give them what they want. Attention.

Same thing with the killers themselves. If the media didn't sit there and embellish every single mass murderer who shoots up a school (story on childhoods, interview their friends, family, coworkers, etc), we would probably have less shootings like that.
