CCV Valve Question (Cold Climate or Standard?)

The CCV valve on my '99 323i needs replacing. I am going to order the parts and pay the senior BMW mechanic at the local BMW dealership to do it for me (on his own time, not at stealership labor costs). But I keep seeing "standard" and "cold climate" versions of the CCV valve and some of the hoses. Are these terms negligible, or are they actually different from one another in terms of fitment? I live in Lubbock, TX so every once and a while it gets pretty cold... But I don't want to order something and find out I got something that wont fit my vehicle for whatever reason...

Also, I was wondering if you guys think the labor fees he is going to charge me sound reasonable for the work that's going to be done. I've never taken my car to the dealership to have it worked on because I've always done it myself. But I don't want to get involved with the CCV valve and really just don't have the time right now due to my work schedule. But he is going to replace the CCV valve and all the hoses, the oil filter housing gasket while he's in there, and also locate and replace an ignition coil that has gone out... And said the labor charges would be $275. Sounds fair, right?

I need to order these parts tonight so I'm hoping for some early responses!

P.S. - If I do end up needing the "standard" version of the CCV valve, do you guys think it's work paying double for a genuine BMW part, or go cheap and get the URO off-brand? I only plan on having this car a few more years, so if it'll last me that long I'd be happy.

I don't think it matters which ccv you have installed unless you think you could move to colder climates.

The labor required to install the ccv is pretty extensive. Check YouTube - BavAuto has a 3-part video of the task. So $275 for labor (2.5 hours) is a good price.

The ccv is a critical part of the emissions system, believe it or not. Also, a failing ccv can pump oil into the intake system causing $$$$$$$ damage. Check Pelican Parts, ECS Tuning and other sources for parts manufactured by BMW suppliers.

The cold version CCV has insulation around the CCV valve itself, and one or more of the plastic vent pipes. There can be issues in cold weather when the engine is run but long enough to fully warm up the CCV. For Lubbock, I wouldn't worry about the cold version, and go with the normal one. In terms of parts, I would stick with the BMW version, and order it from one of the discounting BMW sponsors like TheBMWPartStore.com or eBMWparts.com where it runs $47.

I just went ahead and bought the original BMW cold climate version of the CCV valve kit because it was all about the same. I could have saved about $40 bucks if I got the aftermarket URO brand hoses but I haven't been impressed with their stuff in the past...

They are both BMW dealers ... have you received aftermarket parts when ordering BMW parts from either of them?

$275 is an unbelievably good deal. Especially if they are replacing even more parts on top of it. The dealership here in Cedar Rapids wanted $980. I told them to give me my car back (was in for an alignment) and did the repair myself.

I think I am just going to have him do the CCV valve and oil filter housing gasket replacement for $200. He said he would charge me $75 for the ignition coil, but I think I can diagnose which one has gone bad pretty easily by doing the "unplug" test. I'm also going to change the plugs while I'm in there...

Well I replaced all the spark plugs and #4 ignition coil which was in fact bad. The car runs much better now. Starts up fine, doesn't try and kill itself, idles better and has regained power. I had the check engine light turned off by resetting the codes then scanned again for remaining issues... Didn't get any codes after that but on the way home the check engine light came back on. Guess the CCV valve is bad enough that's it triggering it? Do you guys think I shouldn't drive it until the CCV valve is fixed or should it be alright for a week or two?
