canon 10-22mm vs. sigma 10-20mm

canon 10-22mm vs. sigma 10-20mm
has anyone had to decide between these two lenses?

also.. the sigma has a 10-20mm f3.5 and a 10-20mm f4-5.6 ...
not sure how that works

Romeo, there are pleanty of reviews on line about these lenses... It all depends on how much you will use the lens and if you have the budget for Canon. If you won't be using much and just need the wide angle from time to time, go with sigma. It will save you about $300. If you do plan to use it frequently, go with canon, it will perform a little better in general. Don't forget about the Tokina 12-24 f4, Id say its better then sigma and very similar price.

If you don't know what the "f3.5 and f4-5.6" means, I suggest you buy a photography book or start learning online, its the basics.

You should figure this part out before you spend another dime on a lens...

My pick of the two is the Canon, I had one and loved it but never used it so it's now at a better home. If budget doesn't allow for the Canon, I guess this question has answered itself.

^ that's a nice lens, but its down side is a short length. 12-24 or 10-20 is perfect for walk around city during the day.
I used mostly 16-24 on my last trip.

Quality over Quantity.

^ not sure what you mean by that... the lens is limited with length... some people need more then 16mm. Your lens will not do that.
If you need something for low light situations, then yes, its a better lens and only up to 16mm.

For a regular day use, if we are talking about quality, canon is a winner.

comes down to $ and need of the individual.

I would disagree that Canon is a better lens. BTW its also $300 more.

Big difference between 16mm and 20mm when you are zooming? Nah.

JMO.

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...mp=2&APIComp=0

Try 12mm at f4.0 and tell me the Canon is better.

The only reason I am comparing the two is because the sigma is much cheaper
I've handled the canon 10-22 and took a few shots but never had that chance with the sigma

Trying to gauge whether the sigma f3.5 is worth the extra money over the f4-5.6 ...
But the sigma 10-20 f3.5 is almost as expensive as the canon 10-22 so I'd probably go with the canon in that case

I am looking at used lenses and at worst case, I can resell the canon without losing any money
So I am leaning toward the canon

I know what f3.5 and f4-5.6 means
I meant I dunno if one lens is necessarily better because of the fixed aperture
Or if there is something else better about the 3.5 version that makes it more expensive, other than the lower f stop

Price follows f/stop, exponentially

Prices for the 50mm
f/1.8 $110
f/1.4 $359
f/1.2 $1439

If you're willing to fork out $600-700 for one or the other, go with canon. that half a stop won't do much.. use a flash when indoors

Meeting my seller later today

Going to stick the lens on my camera and snap some shots, make sure the focusing and zooming works without issue
And of course inspect for physical damage

Anything else I should do?
