Rebuilding ZF 6speed Transmission
Has anyone attempted and successfully taken one apart and reassembled it?

Looks.like.hell. I've never rebuilt a transmission, but I'd love to give it a go.

I've done a couple in lab setting and throwing it in on the trans dyno for testing once it was put back and everything came out good. To rebuild one you need the specs on the clearances once your clutch packs are installed it's not hard you just need the right tools.

My problem is after assembling the housings, I feel like 5th and 6th gears aren't engaging properly...5th gear feels like its engaged, but I am still able to rotate the output shaft and when engaging the 6th gear, it feels like there's no resistance at all at the output shaft...I've aligned the forks many different ways, and it still seems to give me the same results.
Could it be that I just don't have enough leverage to properly engage the 5th and 6th gears? Also, I didn't take the gears apart, I replaced the input shaft bearing and now just trying to reassemble it back. |
