OEM Exhaust compared to Eisenmann and Supersprint

During the Sidcup meet (London UK) on the 1st of June we decided to round a few exhausts to make a stationary exhaust comparison between the following setups.

OEM, Eisenmann backbox (Le Mans), Supersprint Race with 100cells, and Supersprint Race with non-res center pipe.

Enjoy and comments welcome!

I would say those with OEM exhausts below 4k revs there is no sound but after 4k revs you get the traditional rasp which I still really like.

The aftermath!

all of these exhausts would sound different on the US spec m3s, right? I'm assuming this because our headers are way different.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. I had a Top Speed eBay rear muffler on the M3 that I bought that sounded better than any of the three aftermarkets in your post, but the thing was so loud, I replaced it with an oem muffler to keep peace at home. Sounded like a Austin Healy 3000 on steroids. No rasp at all.

To be honest, none of these sound right for a compact coupe or vert, which an E46 M3 is.

Stock is to quiet, Eisenmann is to raspy, and Supersprint is ridiculous loud for no damn reason because "racecar."

OEM sounds best to me. I need me some Euro headers.

Re: OEM Exhaust compared to Eisenmann and Supersprint

I had a gruppe m it sounded amazing but was way to loud inside the car. I now have a supersprint lw race which I think has more of a unique sound and is better

OEM Exhaust compared to Eisenmann and Supersprint

They all sound unique hence the video and gives people a chance to hear in comparison to eachother. The Eisenmann and supersprint are often compared so we thought we would show a mix of sounds into a video. Remember these are stationary cars when driving its a different story but at least it gives a picture. Thanks for your comments!

I believe it is the AC Schnitzer single piece lip spoiler in carbon fiber

OEM gets the vote from me. Is it a stock euro setup with stock cats? sounds pretty nice

Euro cats are mounted aft of the exhaust headers. US-spec cats are mounted in the headers in order to meet the EPA cold-cycle emissions test.

this is one of the better videos out for comparison. like you said its good because the distance, same enclosure(none), continuous progression down a line keep very close the variables. only things I would have liked to know is that all had been completely warmed up prior. i would also like the drivers to perform the same rpm variation/pattern. Like 3 consecutive redline hits, then like 10 sec @3K rpm, 10 sec@5K, then down to idle. just to give a comparison how each sound at those rpm compared to the others.
once again nice work

Thanks Alex, some good ideas may have to make a new video again using closer comparisons and a few driveby sound comparisons

Does this group have any view of the sound of US Magnaflow or Borla systems? Thanks in advance.
