wagon/touring install ideas
looking for some inspiration for a 2000 touring boot install, i was hoping to use some old gear i have hanging around and possibly install my old 12" in a box on static bit of floor behind seat and amps under hinged floor. I need to keep some boot space for tools but dont mind loosing a little.... also not affraid to build stuff too, mdf and fibreglass etc........... JUST dont wanna cut the car up. needs to fit under load cover for a stealth look.
I also have a set of old cdt 6.5".... i dont wanna cut doors up so wondered how rainbow compare on sound quality, i love smooth sq sound. Is it worth buying them for ease of fitment?? or sling some cdt 5.25s in adaptors and use my own existing crossover and tweeters.....(similar price here in uk betweent the two options). I did wonder about buying the 5.25" for door then mounting my 6s in a tight box under front seat for midbass. All will be powered by old old soundstream reference amps eventually Any opinions apprecaited |

I'm planning on (hoping some day to get to) a fiberglass enclosure above and around the right rear wheel well, probably extending over the battery area, much like a lot of people do in their sedans and coupes but made to fit under the cargo area cover. I think there's plenty of space there once you remove the stock rear speaker box and cutaway the carpet.
I'm not sure where I want to put the amp, possibly in the empty compartments under the floor just behind the rear seats, might get too hot though. I've got the materials and a 10" Infinity but no amp and haven't had the time. I did put some Infinity 5.25 components in the front doors and 6.5s in the rears (until I get to the sub), much better than stock but still need the bass. I made brackets and mounted the 5.25s to the door instead of the door panel as is factory which cleaned up the sound but actually reduced the sensation of bass (the vibration of the door panels). I don't know about going under the seat but you may be able to cram them above the front foot wells under the dash. It was still worth it, that stock speakers suck. Good luck with whatever route you go, keep it posted. |
