I dunno how you'd get around that. I think this is less for emissions than it is so there isn't an annoying light on.

yea, I had ESS program the DME so that the 2ndary O2's would read a "metered" amount that was within the range allowed...thus bypassing the CEL. What is making the CEL go off on the HPF cars?

The ECU no longer controls the engine.

That is the LEAST of your worries when it comes to emissions testing

It's actually the SES (Service Engine Soon) and not the CEL. HPF's standalone ecu takes over management of the engine including the Vanos, if the oem ecu doesn't see specific values it will trigger the SES light - which basically is telling you something is slightly out of sync and you need to drop by the dealer to have it checked. I think there's around 40+ HPF M3's on the road and as far as I know not one has experienced engine damage due to losing functionality of the SES light.

Hiding the SES only takes 15 minutes, so if it's that important to you take the foam out for your inspection and then put it back in = 30 min.

I understand the SES/CEL functions. And I am confident that HPF has solved everything.

If any lights are on at time of inspection it is an automatic failure. I wonder if anyone in MD/DC/VA has run into this? Although I have places to go to get by this issue

so, back on topic....great idea for the mirror (still not sure if I could deal with the lights in my vision)

When I was building this I was really worried the lights in the mirror would be too distracting.. in fact my original plan was to only have the numerical displays visible and not the sweeping led's. The power supply configuration of the gauges would not allow separating the 7 segment displays so I ended up installing the full gauges. In the end I'm glad it turned out as is. The gauges are very unobtrusive and you really don't notice them unless you are focused on reading them. The display side of the gauges are not critical to have illuminated 100% of the time and I have considered installing an on/off switch to turn the displays off if I'm just tooling around town at moderate speeds/rpms. Please note there's two circuit boards for each gauge - a main circuit board in the back and the display side in the front. The HPF M3 relies on feedback from the back side of the gauges to run properly and removing or disabling them will adversely affect the way your car runs.

Thanks, I don't notice the gauges at all unless I romp on the car and need to check a/fr's. The vid's really don't do the setup justice. If you see this irl you will srp's.

We'll have our first shipment of them in from Scott early next week. If anyone wants to upgrade to the mirror gauges, please let David know.

Chris.

They look nice. The colors are a little off though. Our colors are red and orange and those are red and lighter red. Other than that they look great! Your car looks very good!

Chris.
