I have 3.

Personally I like it more than any of my ARs because they are indestructible. It's hard to find good ammo for them though. Sometimes you get some really shitty batches. If it's for home defense, I would recommend buying a shotgun as a main. Particularly something which you can load rounds straight into the gun (so you can swap loads if the scenario demands it)

I think it's important to note that Obama won't be able to take guns that you've already purchased away from you; they'll be grandfathered in so buy them now.

That said, the AK is known for it's absolute and complete reliability in all situations; it's almost completely full-proof and that's it's greatest asset.

I actually think a great deal of you are mis-informed on what weapon is the best for home defense. It is unequivably an AR, not a shotgun. Sure you'll say that the "clack-clack" makes the criminals sh1t their pants, but you'll probably be surprised to know that it's alot easier to put shots where you want them fast and accurately with an AR than with a 12 guage. I challenge you to go to the range and set up a target and put 3 shots into it with both as fast as you can and you'll find that you are much more lethal with the AR. And it won't fuck the heck out of your house in the process and you won't have to worry about overpenetration unless you use m855 armor piercing ammo.

This. A lot of people are under the myth that a shotgun is the best. Shotguns tend to be even longer & cumbersome than AR's or AK's in cqb. The ammo capacity of 30 rds of .223 or 7.62 x 39 far outpowers the 5 to 7 slugs or rounds of 00. However, I'm not denying the power of a shotgun. A shotgun with the right loads will remove meat and bone with ease. To be proficient at a shotgun, you've gotta know how to properly load & fight at the same time. Something that is extremely difficult while in the dark and half asleep.

I'm planning on going to this tomorrow morning or Sunday. I'll be keeping my eye out for a respectably priced Sagai or an Arsenal.

I'm in the market for a similar style shooter: A range gun, lesser end $$$ shooting rifle, plinking gun, cheap ammo (the consensus was 7.62 was the cheapest round FS?, right?)... etc.

I msg'd YehO about the show... hopefully he gets the message in time!

I went to the Tanner Gun show. The prices on most of the AR's & AK's were inflated significantly further than the setup's I've seen online. I saw one table of beautiful AK's, all built by the same guy. Lifetime warranty on every piece and a great tensioned trigger for $799.99. The one's that caught my eye the most were the special ones he built with picatinny rails and dense rubber grips, masked in digital camo through and through. High tensioned triggers, 7.62x39 with 30rd clips. The upgraded versions he was selling for $999.99. Those were my favorite of the whole show. If I could justify spending that much, that would be the AK for me! .

...buuuutttt I can't. So I'm looking at the $400 range.

Can somebody take a look at / give me an opinion on THIS AK on GunBroker?

Any questions I should ask the seller in regards to the firearm?

Thanks,
-Chris

I am more comfortable with my Glock19 and its Trijicon night sites, glock tac light/laser and its 33 round glock mag.

To me, a 9mm is ideal for close quarters.

I guess its whatever you are most comfortable with.

To be honest, that's what I use. 33 rounds of 147gr RangerT on tap with a Streamlight TLR-1 ready to rock. I use that because that's what i've spend the most time training on.

YehO, what are your thoughts on the above link/price?

To be honest Chris, it's a nice price. However, I'm not a fan of the particular grip that it comes with. To get that composite stock they're charging an additional $90 too.

Would you consider one of the better put together GP-WASR 10/63?

Why do you want to buy an AK-47? It's garbage that's why it's the preferred weapon of most our enemies. It fires a 7.62 which is bigger and can do more damage then a 5.56, but they're less accurate from long range.

That "skeleton" stock doesn't do anything for me... the first two pictured stocks I find far more attractive (and effective ).

It's the price that is the determining factor. ~$440 vs ~$550. (including the addtnl cost of bckgrnd check and shipping to FFL transfers, etc.)

So the question becomes: From your best guest, how is the Romaniam GP-WASR 10/63 superior to the Saiga AK-47 posted above?

*edit: and do you expect prices to continue to go up or down, here in the near future?*

Thoughts?
-Chris

Advantages? Nothing really, if you dig the style of that Saiga - go for it! I personally prefer the traditional butt-stock on the AK....it'd be purely cosmetic for me.
