Engine rattling . Help wanted.
Hi ,
I recently started hearing slight rattling / gurgling from my engine. Showed it to an indy sho p - who said it might be the valves. Uopn reading some posts here - it sounds like the vanos issue. Can someone who is familiar with the VANOs issue help me identifying if the noise i have is indeed the vanos ? Is there someone local who is willing to help ? Do you hear the rattle at idle a lot? If you are near Atlantic City I can ask my friend or who certified BMW tech to look at it for you.

I hear the rattle above 3000 rpm esp getting out of 1st, 2nd gear.
I did the vanos test - recommended by rajaie - Go up an incline - 3rd gear 1500 rpm and floor it. car moved along just fine. Now I'm thinking it is not a vanos issue. Does anyone have any ideas ? |

If you have a vanos issue - the car should stall / sputter. If it takes off with ample power - then it maynot be a VANOS issue

VANOS / engine rattling / DISA - solved.
SOLIDJAKE - YOU RULE !!!!!! I BOW TO YOU.
I have been researching this issue for about 3 months now, and the sound was driving me nuts. I finally tok it to the really cool fellas at Denville BMW. - The tech told me it may be the DISA valve rattling. I looked at your post on youtube to replace DISA valve. I now hold in my hand the completely broken DISA valve. Unlike in your video - my valve is completely broken, and the flap turns a full 180 degrees. Thanks a ton dude!!! Tomorrow am I'm off to the dealership to get a new valve and hopefully the rattling will ceaze. I decided to post back for a fellow enthusiast who may be having the same issue. Thanks Indy Last edited by indraneelis; 08-07-2009 at 07:41 PM. Reason: better title |
