Benelli MR-1

I talked to the local Benelli LE rep today while I was out at my LE supply/gun store. Benelli is modifying the current R-1 Rifle:

For tactical use.
It's going to basically get an M4-style retractable stock, M4/M16/AR grip, and will be modified to accept all AR-style 20 and 30rd magazines. They'll initially offer it in .223. Benelli plans to make it carbine-length, which would mean a 16" barrel. It's unknown if they'll also do a 20" full length option. They're also supposedly going to be making a full forend rail system along with picatinny rail on the top of the action. I don't know what sights will be used, though. It's scheduled to be available some time around late fall to the end of the year.
MSRP is estimated to be $1150-1350.

Benelli wanted to create a rifle based on their super-reliable ARGO system, which is basically a twin short-stroke gas piston system for those that aren't familiar with the R-1 rifle or the M4 shotgun. It's far superior to a gas tube system. Benelli's done a great job, as usual, at keeping it under wraps. Much like the recently released Vinci shotgun, there has been NOTHING leaked out.

It's definitely annoying, but not as bad as my FAB Defense rail forend. I have to unscrew 5 screws to get that sucker off. PITA.
