My Ride: M3
I've had my M3 checked twice now. BEMW in Castle Hill had a look while replacing RTABs and were happy to report that so far no cracking. ( 74,000 kms ).

RTABs on the M3 don't last that long and when they are worn the rear suspension can move around pretty badly, mine did! This puts extra stress on all the rear parts and may assist in fatiguing the sub frame mount points.

I'd suggest collecting as much info on the US class action. This document should be of particular interest.

BMW USA have issued two repair methods.
1) they fill the frame channel with epoxy / sealant for cars prior to 04 with cracking less then 20mm.
2) they replace the whole floor section for cracks greater than 20mm or older than 04.

I'd like to see BMW offer repair type (1) to all BMW owners as a preventative measure, probably save themselves a shot load of money in the long run.

But at this point i think the plates are looking more and more like the best option... the mind boggles though because the e36 M3, had plates standard iirc?
