Yes, would love the Eotech they had in there but $500 was a bit too much...maybe something a little cheaper for now.

Fingerprint for ammo...wow...that's one of the reasons I bought her...it's coming folks.

Come to Alabama...dead serious...walked in at 12:10 with my best friend and I was leaving at 12:30-12:35 with the gun to go across the street and grab some lunch.

SWEET

Fripp, $500 is a tad high. AIM surplus has em lower. the 512 uses AA batteries, so easier to find. AIM also has GREAT ammo prices, and 1 cent shipping too. I utilize them as much when it comes to ammo/accessories because not only are their prices great, they have awesome service.

Btw, they are selling for $400

Nice pickup! Check out AR15.com for some more information. There is soo much to learn and they're great about giving advice. They can also help you get an optic cheaper through classifieds, etc.

Whatever you do, avoid ARFcom's General discussion. You feel stupid after leaving it.

That's comforting, can't even purchase a TV @ Best Buy that quickly.

Wow...no internet sales.

I was joking with my friend at lunch after buying the rifle and I said you know where the safest place in the world to live is?

The Southeastern U.S.
Think about it...we have our own home grown insurgents if anyone ever decided to invade the U.S. Short of taking all of us out with a nuclear weapon we would make life for any invading army a living hell.

You would be constantly harassed by a well established population of pick-up trucks and armed citizens who are intimately familiar with the lay of the land.

You think the Taliban is bad...just try to invade some areas of Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee or Alabama.

Think Red Dawn with a Southern accent

Are you being serious? If so, that's friggin' ridiculous. It's not even that bad in Canada, and our politicians are almost all entirely anti-gun!

Wow. Since when? That is some BS. Good thing I have 1000 rounds of .223 and 1000 rounds of 9mm sitting in my closet.

Congrats on the purchase. I picked up the exact same carbine earlier this year. One heck of a firearm, and a very good value.

Thanks for the reassuring feedback. There is just so much out there. I did as much research as I could and I thought this was a good deal as well.
It's always nice to get a thumbs up from someone who has what you just bought.

Now the fun begins....

Let me put it this way. I bought my carbine complete. It was my first (and only to date) carbine. I didn't have much experience with firearms prior to this purchase, and as such I did not realize that I should probably have taken the weapon apart, cleaned it, lubed it, and broken in the barrel. Aside from the fact that my buffer tube was not tightened down all the way, allowing my buffer retainer and spring to pop up and get beat to hell by my BCG, I have had zero issues with the carbine and it shoots as straight as anything. After about 1000 rds I took it apart, cleaned it really well, and lubed the hell out of it. To date the weapon runs like a scalded cat and I have had no other issues regarding reliability or accuracy.

As an aside, I have found that my carbine really likes Prvi Partizan 62gr .223 FMJ and 55gr M193. They are a little dirty to shoot but not as bad as the PMC 55gr (PRK) that I initially picked up with the weapon. Happy shooting!

Thanks for the heads up on the ammo.

I plan on doing a complete strip down and cleaning of the rifle this Sunday. It's done nothing but rain here so I haven't had a chance to clean her and go out to the range yet.
Now I'm cruising for optics.
My friend at work gave me this website. He's bought two different optics with no issues and I like the prices...

FYI, a bit of false information in this thread to clear up:

The 50 round limit was stripped from the bill. There will be no ammo limits. You can find this info in several places, but here's the story from SF Chronicle.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...BA551A4M82.DTL

Quote:
"It survived close votes in both the Assembly and state Senate and strong opposition from gun-rights organizations, which succeeded in stripping a provision that would have required sellers of more than 50 rounds of ammunition a month to be licensed by the state."
